When you read music you are deciphering the printed page and
transferring the information to the keyboard. You might say that
you are decoding what the composer or arranger put on the page .
The symbols put on the paper by the composer are the only means
he or she has to convey his/her musical ideas to the performer,
hence to the listener.
But! Is decoding a page of printed music and transferring those
symbols to sound really making music?
Not necessarily. That ...

This is for my good friend Mike Franzen. Mike's a cancer
survivor. I thought we could all use this message.
Remember....all things in balance.
Seize the Day
Too many people put off something that brings them joy just
because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their
schedule, didn't know it was coming, or are too rigid to depart
from their routine.
I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic
who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort
to cut ...

The use of the wedding ring as a symbol of the bond between
husband and wife is familiar to us as the concept of marriage
itself, but from where did this interesting tradition emerge?
The history of wedding rings as they are known today is actually
unclear. In an article dating from the July 1869 issue of
Appleton's Journal of popular Literature, Science, and Art,
Edward J. Wood hypothesizes that the modern (modern as of 1869)
use of wedding rings stems from the practices of ancient
Hebrews. It ...

Amongst all of the traditions we use in matrimonial ceremonies
and celebrations, none is more familiar or meaningful than the
wedding ring. The time honored tradition of couples wearing
bands to signify their unyielding love and devotion for one
another goes back perhaps farther than recorded history. In
modern tradition, the wedding ring is typically a band of 18
karat gold, but that tradition has changed in recent years.
Today there are many more designs in wedding rings available
than there ...

Paul preached because he was compelled to preach. He didn't preach in order to receive a personal reward. He was called to preach, obligated to preach. He could do nothing else. It was his duty to invest his Master's talent, to increase Christ's holdings. Of course, he would be rewarded for his work, but he was not motivated by his own reward. Rather, he was motivated by the obligation of his stewardship of the gospel. He put aside his personal concerns and took the concerns of Christ to be his ...

A group of writers from Asean on a reporting excursion of Pluralism and Religious Freedom in US took a visit to Elvis Presley's Graceland. The tour emphasized the influence of Elvis' religious beliefs on his early singing career. When he was in his teenage years, he had worn bright, loud clothes and sported long sideburns. The king of rock and roll was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, and died on August 18, 1977. During the tour on Graceland, one had constantly reminded that ...

Gospel music is a very interesting music genre. Depending on one's level of religiousness, gospel music can be the most spiritual and inspirational genre of music that one would enjoy listening to or playing. Perhaps this can be explained by the fact that this kind of music is greatly inspired by the special relationship shared between God and his people or his followers and devotees. There are various reasons when gospel music can be played and performed, and these reasons may include ...

roaring twenties wedding theme can add a fun and unusual spin to
any wedding. If you are interested in being united in the look
of the twenties, here are some different ideas to get you

Most of Beethoven's masterpieces were composed while he was
deaf. He had inside him music that would not be stilled by
life's circumstances. His music triumphed over suffering.
The last movement of the Ninth Symphony is choral music
Beethoven set to Friedrich von Schiller's poem 'Ode to Joy.'
Beethoven believed this poem celebrated the brotherhood of man.
On May 7, 1824, when the Ninth Symphony premiered, Beethoven was
on-stage conducting. Also on-stage was a supplementary conductor
necessary ...

Q: Why should an Internet course in Emotional Intelligence
include art, poetry and music? A: Because EQ involves
understanding and being able to express your emotions, and art,
poetry and music are the most suitable vehicles for this.
Art expresses emotions without words, and poetry, is, as someone
said, "feelings through a crack pipe." While I haven't
experienced anything through a crack pipe, I get the analogy,
which is what poems, with their metaphors and analogies, are all
about. It could ...

A sandy beach, the sound of waves, the smell of fresh air and a
gentle breeze blowing through your hair. Although romantic and
memorable, there are details to pay attention to if you are
planning a beach wedding.
Before choosing a specific location for your beach wedding,
check weather climates for the date you want to get married on.
It would be more than a memorable wedding if you reserved your
wedding date for hurricane season!

Many of us do not consider the underlying belief system about
money to be of any importance. You think it does not matter,
because what matters is what you do now. Right, at one level,
but not complete. All ideas that we have learned about money in
the past are colouring our actions today. These are ideas that
you are unconsciously following, because you are not aware of
them. It might be: "money is bad", "there is never enough
money", "money does not grow on ...

Whoever said that planning a wedding had to be serious and
stressful? With a western themed wedding, you can experience a
whole new idea together while making it as unique as you want it
to be.
For a western themed wedding, location is everything. Think
about having your wedding in an "old west town", which are
located throughout the Midwest and usually offer wedding
packages at a cost. You can also find an open prairie and use
tents and backdrops that you have designed yourselves. Or ...

Personally I belief that it is possible for anyone to live a
life of happiness, inner peace, and outward success, no matter
what their present or past circumstances. There are very real
methods anyone can use to achieve these things'if they are
willing to make the necessary changes in how they see themselves
and their relationship to the rest of the world, and take the
necessary actions.
All traditions of meditation flow from one premise: that the
entire universe is made of one all-encompassing ...

Not long ago I read a story about the Danish sculptor,
Thorwaldsen. Returning to his home from Italy where he had spent
a considerable amount of time sculpting marble pieces of art
which had made him famous, something odd happened.
As his servants unpacked the marble pieces, they scattered on
the ground the straw in which the sculptures were packed. The
next summer, flowers from the gardens of ...

Rarely is a chord played with its tones contained in a single
octave, the root on the bottom, the third in the middle, and the
fifth on the top.
Usually chords are "voiced!"
This basically means that the positions of a chord's tones are
scattered over the keyboard. The tones may be altered, doubled,
added to, missing, and so forth.
There are a great variety of possibilities available in voicing
chords. Voicing chords properly is an art within itself. Using
