Head to Glasgow for a glorious summer of music!

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with 41% of the country's population dwelling within the conurbation's limits, amounting to a colossal 2.3million people. Because of the amount of music lovers that dwell within the city limits Glasgow is home to a plethora of music venues, and this summer is set to put on a musical bonanza for lovers of all types of music, from jazz gigs in intimate clubs to packed stadium rock extravaganzas!

AC/DC who are currently undertaking a mammoth two-year world tour will finish their European leg at a sold-out Hampden Park on June 30th. Although well-known as an Australian outfit, the brothers at the heart of the band Malcolm and Angus Young were both born in Glasgow before emigratingimmigrating to Sydney as young boys. Their homecoming gig in front of 60,000 fans promises to be a belter and certainly one of the highlights of their European leg!

However, AC/DC aren't the only rock giants heading for Glasgow this summer, iconic Irish rockers U2 will also be packing them in at Hampden Park on 18th August 2009 on their 360 degrees Tour. Prior to that ultra-successful reformed boy band Take That will play the Sstadium for a staggering three successive nights from the 19th to the 21st June inclusive. More classic rockers in the shape of The Eagles and Bruce Springsteen are also playing the venue on the 4th and 14th July respectively.

But rock and pop aren't the only types of music to receive profile gigs in the city this summer. Organisers of a totally different genre of music are putting on their own annual extravaganza during two weeks in June. The Glasgow Jazz Festival will take place throughout venues in the city from 19th ' 30th June, involving performances from Jazz maestros, such as the legendary John Mayall and Chick Corea. In addition, a series of workshops for those aspiring to become as proficient as their Jazz heroes is on offer, and flights to Glasgow will be carrying eager participants from all four corners of the globe to this prestigious event.

Weather experts are forecasting a scorching 2009 summer which will undoubtedly please the music promoters as well as owners of pubs, restaurants and shops in Glasgow. That intoxicating mix of sun and world-class music events will see the city thronging with happy gig-goers; whether it's rock, pop, jazz or any other musical genre that you love, you'll find it all this summer in Glasgow.
